Katie is a trauma-informed licensed professional counselor who specializes in the treatment of adolescents and young adults struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, PTSD, self-esteem, emotional dysregulation, distress tolerance, relational struggles, and the difficulties that come with the transition into adulthood. Katie received her master’s degree from Chestnut Hill College in Clinical and Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Child and Adolescent Therapy. Katie has experience working within the school system developing accommodations for individualized education plans and helping students to have a more successful educational experience. Katie also has extensive training on the effects of trauma on brain development and techniques to rewire neuropathways and bring healing to the brain. Katie is certified in the Neuro-sequential Model of Therapeutics. Katie believes that the brain has plasticity and is able to change over time. Our bodies give us signals when we are moving through different brain states and if we can recognize these signals, then we can utilize techniques to calm our bodies down before escalating, and make sound, healthy choices.
Katie believes that the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important aspects of therapy, and change occurs when clients feel heard and understood. Her goal is to create a safe, calming environment for all of her clients and utilize an integrative approach to care. Every client has their own unique experience of the world and therefore each case is developed with customized care. Katie helps her clients gain self-awareness through mindfulness, self-exploration, and sensation awareness exercises. Katie also helps clients learn techniques to self-regulate, challenge irrational thought processes, and she supports her clients in gaining a healthier sense of self and making deeper connections with others.
