Practitioner Name: Matthew (Matt) Pinnel
Title: Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

Greetings, I am so excited that you are here! My name is Matthew Pinnel, and you can call me Matt. I am a dedicated clinician and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I like to consider myself compassionate, calm, and reflective when working with clients and in my daily life. I strive to create a genuine, collaborative, safe, and non-judgmental space as we work together.

Educational Background:

Matt graduated from Holy Family University in 2015 with a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology, focusing on Marriage and Family Therapy. He became a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in 2021 and is a clinical member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT).

Professional Experience:
Matt has experience working with families, individuals, and couples. He enjoys working with children, adolescents, and adults experiencing symptoms related to:

  • Anxiety

  • Attachment styles

  • Depression

  • Family conflicts

  • Parenting/communication challenges

  • Relationship concerns

  • Trauma

Therapeutic Approach:
Matt utilizes a systemic and strength-based approach with an emphasis on navigating transitions while recognizing the potential for growth and positive change. He is an avid learner, always striving to enhance his skills as a clinician to best serve his clients. Currently, he is working towards becoming trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and gaining more knowledge in ADHD, ADD, and ASD. His approaches include:

1.     Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Matt helps clients develop healthy thinking patterns and beliefs that alleviate and help prevent the relapse of distressing emotions.

2.     Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Matt teaches emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness to help manage distressing emotions and improve quality of life.

3.     Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR): Matt is working towards certification in EMDR, a technique that alleviates symptoms associated with traumatic and distressing memories using bilateral stimulation.

Get to know me: I am an avid movie goer; I belong to AMC's A-List. In my free time I enjoy playing video games, engaging with family and friends for board game nights, and creating art (painting, drawing, colored pencil).
